Parution : Kostas G. Tsiknakis (ed.), Ο πόλεμος εκτός μάχης. Η προετοιμασία και οι συνέπειες των πολέμων από την Τέταρτη Σταυροφορία έως τον Κρητικό Πόλεμο
During the period between the Fall of Constantinople to the Latins (early 13th century) and the Ottoman conquest of Crete (mid-17th century), the eastern Mediterranean became the centre of extensive military conflicts, triggered by a web of political, economic, and religious factors. This volume focuses on unseen aspects of wars, exploring historical developments away from the front line, before, during, and after the conflicts. Twelve specialized studies analyze issues such as defensive planning, weapons technology, intelligence gathering, as well as the impact of these confrontations on the natural and cultural environment. At the same time the volume sheds light on the social implications of these conflicts, the pervasive sense of insecurity, and the realities of everyday life experienced by the populations under conditions of war and siege.
